Who am I?

I am many things. Amongst them a strategist, an artist, and a writer.

As a multi-disciplined strategist I have had the pleasure of working across an array of brands, projects, and problems…from uncovering Dr. Martens’ global brand positioning, to helping McCain connect with a new audience on social, to repositioning England Football to empower more people across the country.  All have one thing in common: developing authentic and engaging approaches that emotionally connect with an audience/s, whilst delivering business results.  Sitting at the heart of everything: the search for understanding why we do what we do, and therefore how to influence what we do next.

As an artist I am fascinated by the translation of the experience the world around us into a medium others can also explore. This started decades ago when I developed a healthy obsession of the abstract expressionists’ attempt to capture or evoke emotion on canvas. That obsession has developed into an exploration into capturing the marvel of the natural world through pencil, paint, pen, clay, and ink (for now).

As a writer I am driven to take the whirlwind of thoughts that are always swirling around my head, analyses and explanations of the things I have discovered, and impart them to others in the most compelling and engaging way possible. That might be through journals, blog posts, articles, a book, a screenplay, or even a strategy. Whatever the medium, my aim is to always enlighten, enthuse and empower.

It might seem like a heady mix, but I strongly believe that all three benefit each other immensely. Working on a painting takes me away from the cerebral and into the practical and the physical, creating a space where I can experiment and explore new ways of doing things and approaching tasks.  It’s a quietening of my conscious so my subconscious can work away in peace. This exploratory and experimental approach I can weave into my strategic thinking, ensuring my work has the greatest chance of being unique.  As a writer I have to hone my story telling skills, leading the audience on a journey to the most compelling conclusion.  And a good strategy does the same, landing in a place that feels inevitable.

To give myself the best chance of success I left the Big Smoke after 11 years, shifting my life to South Devon where I currently live with two fur idiots - Rei and Chiomara. Here I live a much quieter life, one that allows me to hear my own mind more clearly, providing a space for greater focus and allowing my thoughts to emerge naturally.  As someone who only discovered they were neurodivergent as an adult, removing myself from the hubbub of London has allowed me to create an environment where my brain is allowed to thrive rather than fight against the world around me.  And this has only, and continues to, benefit my work.

If any of what I have written here, or across this website, has piqued your interest then don’t hesitate to get in touch via the Contact Me form and I’ll get back to you asap.
